A wedding Photographers Guide
Today our blog and small guide features Ben & Sarah's Wedding,
Venue: Blackthorpe Barn, Nr Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
This wedding had a slightly more personal meaning as I've been friends with the groom for many years. In fact, I was one of the groomsmen so I was in front of the camera on some of the images. It was an honour and a privilege to provide the photos for this fantastic couple.
The great thing about this day was being able to call on family members to help so not only were we able to provide the photos but also a surprise highlight video (which the couple didn't expect). If you'd like to have a look click on the link below:
A quick guide to the venue!
Blackthorpe Barn is on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds. If you're getting married there check out the unlimited cocktail hour offer! We don't normally drink until after we've finished photographing BUT as a groomsman I had to enter into the spirit of things. Dad stayed sober though!
Each year Blackthorpe host a ‘Tasting Banquet’ where bride & groom can taste & try all the cocktails, canapés, starters, mains, desserts & wines – a great way to kick start the wedding planning.
Toasting the Bride!
Bridal Prep.
With most of our couples we begin the day with Bridal prep. Our aim is to tell the story of the day, in pictures, from the preparations to the first dance as a married couple.
Great to get some groom prep images as well as the bridal prep images.
Ceremony
The ceremony was held at St, Peter's Church, Thurston. It rained for most of the day not that you wold know it from these pictures - according to tradition that's supposed to be good luck, as blessings rain down on the couple. A shot of the bridal party about to make their entrance (she was given away by her brother)
After the ceremony
We always have a contingency plan for bad weather so most of the formal shots were taken in the barn at Blackthorpe. Some lovely atmospheric images.
Cocktails - Lovely
An afternoon tea with sandwiches scones, and all the accompaniments!
The atmosphere
As you may remember in 2018, this was when we had the unrelenting heat wave, we had basically no rain from April - August.
On the run up to the wedding we couldn't believe the forecast was rain.
But as strange as it sounds, it was actually a good thing it rained!
Blackthorpe barn just created this incredible atmosphere, everyone was inside, it brought everyone together and actually created a better day having everyone under one roof. It just allowed everyone to be social and celebrate Ben & Sarah's wedding together!
The Fun shots!
Luckily being an August wedding we had light evenings!
So we manager to get out about 8 in the evening for some fun shots on some soggy ground!
The Evening
After that the cake was cut, first dance and then the party really got started!
Blackthorpe Barn provides a great atmosphere for evening shots!
We hope our images and the story has helped inspire you. If you are looking for photographers who always provide 2 shooters on the day, who will get to know you and what you want for your day, and to accompany you on your wedding journey why not get in touch - info@awakenimages.co.uk.
If you're contacting the venue, don't forget to tell them where you saw it.
